CyberSatark – Helping India Stay Safe Online

CyberSatark is a private, independent cyber fraud awareness platform dedicated to educating citizens about digital fraud, cybercrimes, and online financial risks.

With the rapid growth of digital payments, online services, and social media usage in India, cyber frauds have become more sophisticated, frequent, and difficult to detect. CyberSatark was created with a simple objective — to make cyber safety knowledge easy, accessible, and understandable for everyone.

Understanding Digital & Cyber Frauds in India

  • Globally, cybercrime costs are projected to reach $15 trillion annually by 2029
  • Approximately 1 in 4 people worldwide have experienced some form of online fraud.
  • In India, nearly 5.3 lakh cybercrime cases were reported in 2024, a 15% increase from the previous year
  • Financial frauds via UPI, net banking, and mobile wallets account for the majority of cases in India.
  • Small businesses and individuals are increasingly targeted through phishing emails, fake websites, and social media scams.

The rise of digital payments and online transactions has made cyber awareness more critical than ever.

Most Common Cyber Frauds

1. OTP & UPI Frauds

  • Criminals trick users into sharing one-time passwords (OTP) or UPI PINs via calls, SMS, or WhatsApp messages.
  • Funds are immediately withdrawn from victims’ bank accounts.

2. Phishing & Fake Websites

  • Fraudsters create websites that look identical to real banks, e-commerce sites, or government portals.
  • Users unknowingly enter personal data, which is stolen and misused.

3. Digital Arrest / Impersonation Scams

  • Victims are threatened with legal action or arrest via fake messages or calls, prompting them to transfer money.

4. Social Media & WhatsApp Scams

  • Fake offers, lottery messages, or “help your friend” chains lead to financial loss.

5. Online Shopping & E-commerce Frauds

  • Fake online stores or cloned e-commerce sites take payments without delivering products.

6. Ransomware & Malware Attacks

Malicious software locks devices or data, demanding ransom for access.
